In the heart of the charming city of Funchal, next to the majestic Sé Cathedral, 1933 saw the birth of a unique space where cultural and gastronomic encounters intertwined in a dance of flavours and ideas. This iconic space emerged as a tribute to the city’s ancestral tertulias, where Madeiran bourgeoisie, writers and businesspeople gathered to give voice to their inspirations in the golden days of yesteryear.
Since then, Theo’s has been a faithful mirror of the nuances and movements of the region, moulding itself to the rhythm of time. Initially a simple teahouse, it has transformed into a vibrant dance hall, bearing witness to the evolution of the ages.
Now, since March 2024, under the leadership of Chef Júlio Pereira, whose art already shines in two other renowned restaurants, Kampo and Akua, both on Funchal soil, Theo’s has been reborn with a renewed purpose.
It is here, in the sanctuary of gastronomic authenticity, that the true essence of Portuguese cuisine comes to life, immersed in the vibrant cultural tapestry that is Portugal.
Chef Júlio Pereira
It was in his father’s butchers, his grandfather’s vegetable gardens and his mother’s kitchen that it all began. The essence of the product and its season is engraved in its gene.
